All we have are moments

All we have are a series of moments. Sewn together to make up the fabric of our lives.

Right now is all that matters. The past is done with, and what we hold on to in it, often just holds us back. It sets the stage for what we can often do in the now, and helps us determine the path to our future. But the future is yet unseen, and worrying about it may distract us from the now.

In the now, we have a couple of choices. The first, is whether or nor to participate in this moment in time. We can involve ourselves, or not. If we involve ourselves, we really only have one other choice: to do good, or to do evil. In each moment we participate we contribute something of ourselves and we receive something back. The relative measure of value of those moments can really only happen in reflection of those moments that have passed.

This is what the tapestry of our lives is woven from.

If we choose not to participate, then that tapestry is just a worn, ragged, full of holes, unsightly mess. If we do participate, and add good to the world, we are left with a life that is vibrant, full of history and connection. Something to be shared, celebrated and remembered. Alternatively, the evil we've all done, the black streaks across our life; the spots; all the cursed moments that haunt us, shame us, and make us sometimes fearful of participation at all.
